Johnson

Johnson was ridiculed for his poor performance at the start of the series, but it looks like he is slowly coming back to form.

At his best, he is not an easy proposition to face as he gets awkward bounce from a good length, and nowadays can swing it back into the batsmen. He has a slingy action, and sometimes it would be hard to pick him because of that.

In my view he was struggling in the early part of the series mainly because he was looking to swing it too much instead of sticking to his strengths of hitting the deck, and getting that awkward bounce. In the test at Headingley though he bowled with better control and looked far better.

He has got some success now, and on a true surface like the Oval he can't be underestimated as it may suit his style of bowling!

It will be good experience for Australia if he will perform more better than the last four matches.

...but will the long gap will eventually help him...? i think whatever good he was feeling for himself would evaporate and he will have to restart again in next test...to find right rhythm...

I thought he did well at Headingley as he did get a 5 for.

It takes time to adjust to the conditions in England.

Straight point,

Yeah it can go against him as there is a long gap between the fourth and the fifth test.

He also has a slingy action and bowlers with slingy actions can lose their way quickly as the margin for error for them is probably less but they can create a huge impact too.

I think you're right, I think he was trying to swimg it a bit too much at the beginning of the series and it just wasn't working for him.

He was looking better at Headingley, but I'm still not convinced. I am biased towards Hauritz, I admit, but I think they should use him at the Oval. Either Johnson or Siddle should make way, but can't decide which ...

Dustbinner,

Anyhow thanks for your comment.

The pitch at Oval has the reputation for helping spinners but it is not a dust bowl.

It would be a tough decision to drop either Sid or Johnson as Johnson has the ability to get awkward bounce from a good length and the pitch at Oval can suit him too as it would have a bit of bounce. Siddle is a bowler who seems to have a never say die attitude.
